An Art Journal Peek!

Good morning friends!!!!  Happy Thursday!!!  I'm doing computer work today....getting images organized, etc.  And I came across these pics of a journal spread I created at least a year ago....maybe more.  This is the end of an altered book.  An old library book.  (see the pocket for the "check out card?")  I remember playing with chalks when I drew this.  Then spraying fixative, and then touches of acrylic paints.  I remember having fun.  That's what it's all about, eh?

Today, here in Iowa, we started in the 50 degree range, but I'm told the temp will drop swiftly back to the 30's again by afternoon.  It's dreary as can be, and the wind is howling.  It's a good day for the pups and I to stay indoors and savor another cup of coffee.  Hope you are well, friends.  XOXO -D

Thank You!!!!

Hi friends!!!!  Thanks so much for all of your Etsy shop love the past few days!  I appreciate it!!!  I am still working on getting these orders packed up and out the door...but I plan to finish it all up today!  Hooray!  Our weather has taken a turn here in Iowa....COLD temps...and a blanket of snow.  Fortunately, we were able to celebrate our neighborhood's annual chili cook - off on Saturday night before the weather blew in.

Both pups, Bosco, and Callie Mae Butterbean, are in quiet protest of this nonsense.  Callie is never far from a quilt or fuzzy blanket.  She's got the right idea.  Cheers, friends!  I hope I will see you at Prairiewoods this Saturday, for their annual holiday bazaar!!!

Since I'm behind as usual, I'll be working up to the last minute on ornaments, cards and some small paintings!  See you then!  Stop by for a hug!!!  XOXO.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #20 - The FINAL PIECE!

Hello again!  And here is the final "What She Said" painting!  #20!  I had high hopes of doing one for each day of October....but things happen.  It was a crazy month, filled with some highs and lows.  But I'm good with finishing 20, and on this note.  My husband actually suggested this quote.  He's quite a guy.  And this is summing up how I feel lately. There are things to be sad about....but we must press on and keep fighting the good fight.  Soon, I'll announce when these will go live in my Etsy shop!
Stay tuned.  XOXO.  -D

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #19

Good morning friends, happy Wednesday!  I'm winding down my "What She Said" grouping of paintings.  Here is #19.  A few wise words from the sparkling Lucille Ball!  This is mixed media on wood panel.  I love the swatches of fabric included!  Must remember to incorporate more fabric!
Cheers, hope you are enjoying the first few days of November.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #18

Hi friends!  Here's painting #18 in my "What She Said" challenge.  This quote is from Malala Yousafzai.  If you have girls, you should tell them her story.  Tell them about her bravery, compassion and strength.  So inspiring.  Hope you are having a lovely Friday so far.  Cheers!  XO.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #17

Happy Halloween friends!  It doesn't feel like Halloween today....we are under a blanket of several inches of snow.  UGH.  But we shall overcome.  Here is painting #17!  Wood panel...lots of texture, because I used a palette knife.  A quote from Helen Keller.  Much love to you.  Stay warm!!!!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #16

Hi pals!!!  So, as you can see, October is getting away from me, and FAST!  It's been a crazier month than I anticipated....so I'm going to let this challenge trickle into November a few days, and complete a few less paintings than I originally planned.  Ah....such is life.  But here is #16!  A quote from Anne Lamott about grace.  And who doesn't need a little more grace in their life?
XOXO.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #15

Good morning friends, and happy Friday!  Here is painting #15!  All done!  Mixed media on a wood panel.  The quote from hilarious, brilliant, Tina Fey.  Love her.  Have you read her book, "Bossypants?" It's great!  Look it up!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #14

Here's #14.  Another mixed media on wood panel.  This quote really resonated with me.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #13

Hi again!  Here's painting #13 in my "what she said" series!  I adore all things Mary Oliver.  I use her books for meditation, and will often send her poems to friends.  This is another mixed media on wood panel.  I had a lot of fun with collage papers on this one.....it's got me eyeing old books and magazines in a new way!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #12

Happy Tuesday friends!  How's it going?  I'm returning to the studio today after having a FUN three day weekend getting away with the hubby for a concert, some shopping, and some eatin'. Good times!  But I'm ready to get back to the work table today, continuing this series, and also starting on some holiday ornaments for the season.

This is painting #12, featuring a quote from THE Janis Joplin.  One of the original bad asses.
Wood panel, mixed media.  More to come soon. Stay tuned!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #11

Hi gang!  Painting number 11 in my "What She Said" series is done, and it's a small chunky wooden panel with a Katharine Hepburn quote.  Lots of texture, collage paper and fun mark making.
Happy Sunday!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #10

Happy Saturday, friends!  Here's painting #10!!!  This is mixed media on paper.  You KNEW I had to include a Maya quote, didn't you?  She was a legend.  Wishing you all a lovely weekend.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #9

Happy Friday morning pals!  It's a beautiful fall day here in Iowa.  The leaves are really starting to turn colors and drop all around us.  It's gorgeous out there!!!  I have some raking to do.

Here's painting #9...mixed media on heavy paper.  There are quite a few collage elements in this one as well as brush strokes.  Lots of fun to do!  Hope you have a gorgeous weekend, and we'll see you again soon!

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #8

Good morning friends!  Happy Hump Day!  Our weather here in Iowa has taken the turn to FALL!  I love it!  Although, that means I have raking the yard in my future.  Ah well.  Onward!

Here's #8!!  I know...there are 4 mini's...and they aren't "famous quotes" but I'm counting them anyway! These are recycled vintage bingo cards!  Isn't that fun?  I created these fast and furious, and added messages that we all need to hear now and again. These would be so sweet tucked into a card for a friend, or left somewhere to brighten someone's day.

Hope you all have a lovely day!
-D

"What She Said" painting #7

Hi again!  How is your week going so far?  Doesn't it feel like October is flying right by?  It does to me....it's a little alarming...but there it is.  Here's painting #7!  A quote from Eleanor.  This is mixed media on a chunky wood panel.  The designs/marking continue around on all sides of the piece.  I love that....seeing the design continue around the corners.  Have a great day, friends.

"What She Said" Painting Challenge #6

Painting #6 was done on paper, 11x15. A quote from the incomparable Mother Teresa, of course.

Good morning!  Happy July!!!  How are you all doing?  It is WARM and humid here in Iowa right now....but we are used to this by now.  Many of us have VOWED not to complain about the weather, as we are remembering the days of a long cold winter not so long ago.  Ha!

Just wanted to post a quick THANK YOU to everyone who came by Artfest Midwest last weekend!!!!  Wow!!!!! Lots of happy faces, and many pieces of art found their new forever homes!  Thanks so much for your enthusiasm and support.  It means the world to me!!!!  We were busy right out of the gate, so I failed to get any really decent pics of the booth.  But here we are on the second day of the show...a tad tired...but happy!  Lovin' Man is a life saver during shows.  He's my driver, pack mule, and snack purveyor.  He's a gem.

Art Journal Peek 4/24/19

Good morning pals!!!  How's it going?  Spring is in full swing here in Iowa, and we are doing a happy dance!!!!  I still needed a hat and gloves while walking the dog this morning, but I can deal.  Ha!!!  Here's a throwback to a journal page I created late last year.  I ended up turning the pattern into scarves!  So. Much. Fun.  Had I to do it over again, I would've selected a larger sized scarf...but it was a trial run, and it turned out great.  Might try some more soon!  The hubby and I had the privilege of traveling to Paris earlier this month...I'm hoping to write a brief (where do I even begin?) post about the inspiration and wonderful memories we gathered there.  But for now, I gotta work.  Arts for Africa at Noelridge Christian Church is this Saturday, and I have a lot to do to be ready for it!!!!
Cheers!!!  -Dori

Art Journal Peek!

Happy Tuesday!  Here's a peek to a recent journal spread.  Sometimes, I swear, the secret to life is simply Standing. Up. One. More. Time.  XOXO

Art Journal Peek

Good morning friends, and happy March!  Although, it feels like the depth of January here, just sayin'.  My phone says is -7.  Ha!!!  BUT!!!  We will not let it dampen our spirits...spring will come!  We will just keep plodding along....until we are skipping again.  Right?

Here's a quick journal peek.  This is a spread I created LAST January...but realized I didn't share.
Hopefully the colors and patterns will perk up your Monday morning.  I still love making those weird flowers.  And I love how that face turned out....need to work on more of those.

Keep smiling!!!!  -Dori
